January Bangor Market Report

Arena YES!

by Denise Reed

I have followed the debate over the new arena and convention center closely. From my view, it seems the city council has been very careful. They’ve studied the issue for a long time, perhaps too long. They have come up with a good plan.

The people who oppose this arena say it could cost taxpayers. But I don’t see that in this plan. Hollywood Slots will cover the costs of building it, and it will be a great asset for this community.

To that, the opponents say, what if Hollywood Slots goes away? That seems unlikely. We can come up with a million “what if’s” to keep us from progressing to make Bangor a better place. What if the Bangor Mall closes? What if there’s an earthquake?

We can’t let fear of the unknown keep us from being a better place to live.

Vote  “yes” on May 4.

Good News! Maine Homes Sales up in January

by Denise Reed

The good news is the State of Maine Home Sales were up in January over 10% and Nationally were up almost 5% in the last 12 months.  The not so good news (trying to be optimistic) is our area, Penobscot County was down over 21% from last year and the median sales price is down almost 3%.  The fact that Nationally and the State of Maine as a whole have seen increases in sales is encouraging as our area will very likely follow suit.  Also, our area has seen record snow falls in January which made the winter sales sluggish.  I'm optimistic that spring will be upon us soon and sales will once again rise in our area.  For more information, please see the Maine Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MREIS) Press Realease.  I have also have included a video from the National Asociation of REALTORS® on Why Homeownership Matters.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons in Maine because the weather is still mild & even a drive down I-95 is beautiful with the amazing foliage!  Here are a few photos I took on my way to showings or on day trips.  Enjoy!

Keith Urban Concert

by Denise Reed

Many of my clients know I am a big Keith Urban fan so I thought I would share pictures from his next to last show of the year in Essex Junction, VT.  Kris Allen from American Idol fame opened the show and really got the crowd going w/ his cover of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror".  When Keith Urban entered the stage it started raining (outdoor venue) and it really created a dramatic feel with the wind & rain, but just as quickly as it came it passed.  This concert was one of the best I've been to (and I've been to a lot!).  As Keith Urban said "it was a magical night in Vermont!"
